Chapel Blog | Our weddings, events and news

You never know who God is bringing into your life!

When we woke up Sunday morning, our 29th anniversary, we didn't know Emily and John. The next day, they became the newest Caliber Oak bride and groom! While we were at Green Pastures for brunch, we noticed a couple that had 'newlywed' written all over them! Needless to say, as shy as I am, I went over to learn their story. Apparently, it hadn't been quite written yet and He was bringing Denise and I into the plan. Emily explained how her flight from Arkansas had been 5 hours late earlier in the weekend, and the original plans to get married in Austin kind of fell apart. When we met them on Sunday, they were trying to figure out how the whole thing could possibly come together this weekend before she had to return home. Enter God, and the Chapel at Caliber Oak. We exchanged information and encouraged them to get a marriage license in Travis County and call us the next day. I told them I'd be happy to marry them. Hoping we'd hear from them, but not really sure, we were thrilled to get a call yesterday at 12:02 p.m. from Emily. They were headed to the court for their license. Amazingly (well actually not with God as the author of this story!) the judge WAIVED the 72 hour wait requirement on license issuance which would have ended the chances for a wedding this weekend. They stopped at the florist and champagne store, and headed to a chapel they'd never been to to be married by a couple who they'd only just met. Needless to say, it all came together. Married under the chandeliers in an unseasonably breezy and comfortable evening setting, Miss Denise played her flute before and after the ceremony just to add that special touch. A bit of champagne and the 4 of us headed to dinner in the Cadillac covertible as the sun set. A happy ending right out of the movies! Thank you God for bringing us Emily and John, and may you bless them with years of happiness and love!
